Cat house indoor

Choosing to put your cat house indoors is something that must be thought about carefully. One of the most common reasons for not choosing an indoor cat house is because of cats often end up using household furniture as scratching posts. Cats that live outside or are allowed to spend time outside are less likely to have this problem because when outside they can sharpen their claws on trees etc… cedar_cat_house-townhouse04If you don't keep your cat in an outdoor it is imperative that you provide your cat with a scratching post. Often it is the cat owner's favorite chair that ends up being the most destroyed by the cat's claws, and the reason for this is the cat is responding to its owner's scent. So putting your scent on the scratching post will help to increase the chances your cat will decide to start using the post. Often a log of wood with the bark on it will be better than commercially made scratching post. If you are having problems with your cat scratching furniture, try covering the legs with aluminum foil, this usually helps to discourage the cat. Another possible solution is to have your cat declawed. However it must be noted that this is a very drastic measure and can have serious consequences for your cat. There are other training techniques that you should try and employ before even thinking about having your cat declawed. Obviously if your cat house is outdoors then none of this is a problem for you but if you do bring your cathouse indoors then be prepared for some retraining of your cat. If you are bringing your cat inside to live after it has spent time living outside you will probably not want to give the cat unlimited freedom inside the house until you are sure it has learnt to use the scratching post and not your furniture.
