Not mixing new experiences with meals

The meal hours may never coincide with the previous instants of the execution of the ride, no matter how short they are. If the frontal rejection that the dog already manifests when going inside the vehicle, for perceiving that what is about to happen is not pleasant we add possibilities of him vomiting, as a consequence of having eaten and to all of this, which is already nasty for him, you add the fear for being reprehended by his owners, you will be forgetting all the necessary elements to take the process to a good end.

If you have to choose a time to give the dog its food, this has to be after having overcome successfully the stage previously described: the short distance trip. You can even reward him just by coming out of the vehicle with some pats, or soothing words and occasionally some sweets.

Before an inadequate answer from the dog inside the vehicle with barking, whimpers or hyper-active behavior, in no way will you try to calm him by petting him or with soothing words. The dog will understand this the opposite way. For him, instead of signifying "come now take it easy nothing bad is happening," he would interpret it as "good, good, keep it up." Equally, to avoid the annoying combination from the usual movement of the car with the visual perception from part of the dog, from the fast exterior sights passing through the windows, we will put special curtains on the windows of the vehicle to hide these visions. We can also give the animal his own place in the car, because as an animal of habits he will get used to this place quickly, and this will give him more confidence. What you must never do is take him all tied up.
