Self-defense aggressions

In the former chapter corresponding to self-defense, aggressiveness, all what you have to know about this behavior has been explained in detail. That is why, in this section we are only going to talk about how to do correct process of sensibility suppression with respect of the same. This process will begin inside the dogs influence zone of his territory, for this circumstances to rebound positively on his level of security.

The first contact with others exemplars will have to be done inside your dogs influence zone, as near as possible to your home, even so, in spite of being inside this zone, we will avoid those places in which the dog has had situations that could have cause or aggravated this which we are treating.

The initial encounters will be done under determine conditions, waiting for a less evasive response from the dog.

For this to be so, you will conciliate the contacts, so much with unknown dogs as for the ones owned by your friends and neighbors , always have in mind that the area chosen for these contacts, aren't territorial zones of the other exemplars involved, to mitigate, as possible, a potential negative answer from him, circumstance that would only worsen the situation.

At first, these contacts will happen with only exemplars of an opposite sex to that of our dog and that if possible, are in a transition age of less than 18 months of age. With it, we will attain lesser opposition from the contrary and, in consequence, a better positive predisposition to the encounter from our animal. This will be correct, even if the last stage will take effect with all types of exemplars, in company of any of the members of the family and, even in areas that don't imply any kind of connotation (fundamentally positive).

Once the area of encounter has been defined and gathered all the animals implied, the member of the family that imposed more security to the dog will be in charge.

Independently that after, some regressions would show, we must unify all the conditionings to obtain positive results since the beginning. For this, the schedules must be adequate it is necessary to alter the external factors that affect our dog (other dogs, zones, schedules and accompanist) this accordingly to the progress obtained.

This actions will be done daily and there will be a maximum of three encounters in each.

As a pattern, in any part of the process you must permit that your dog at the time of the encounter with the rival, be free to move as he likes so, at least have a long leach as to permit this freedom of movements and in case of problems, to pull him out if necessary.

At the time of the process, the main factor isn't so much as what kind of reactions might your dog manifest, as the capacity of the answers of the owner before them.

Before an exteriorization of a rejection posture from your dog to the encounter, in no case must you force the situation. The owners must limit himself to leave the area without any kind of recrimination towards the animal.

If on the contrary he would show curiousness or tendency to the encounter, the dog will be tolerate and encouraged in a constant way until the adversary begins any kind of attitude of rejection, shows a flattening behavior or a third exemplary would come into scene.

When during the process the dog would show a positive attitude, you must encourage him with words and in a tone of voice that will leave the dog without doubts of what you are trying to tell him: very good!, you can do it!, etc. And calling in between of them his name. In an exceptional way you could reward him with a sweet.

An error that mustn't commit is that of accompanying the congratulations or positive reinforcements, with petting or caresses. This could distract him from the situation or even frighten him and his rival. Accordantly, as he shows, as the days go by, a better disposition to these encounters, the external conditions will be tougher: practice with an inferior element of the family, on schedules with less sunlight and on different zones, without forgetting that this will be always done in a progressive way. If unfortunately, and independently from the stage in which the process goes, the dog would reject the contact with the contrary or would manifest a negative reaction, you will leave zone and will leave a day of rest in between before another encounter. This new encounter will be done in a different zone, with another rival and a different and opposing time schedule than the one before.
