Vehicles and dogs

In relation with the vehicle in which the dog must stay, you have to avoid at least until you have achieved and attained greater margins of security for him, closed spaces as the car trunk or the transportation cages. Just as the points situated above the suspension axis of the vehicle, to mitigate the vibrating sensation transmitted by these. The existing space between the back seats and the back of the front seat is the place recommended for the dog to be, this way the animal will be at reach by the occupants of the back seats.

Like pointed out before, for cases of traumatic experiences that are perfectly applicable to the patterns previously described, you have to let the dog know clearly that who as in that moment relates the vehicle with the prelude of an unpleasant situation in reality it will be all the contrary.

You must avoid long rides or those which end may become a negative experience for the dog. Maybe it won't be for us but that is not important. The visits to the veterinary or places in which the dog will have to be for a long time inside the vehicle while we are absent or to places unknown for him are convenient at this stage of the process.

On the contrary, you must plan more frequently short distance rides, even if it is to its usual playing grounds. Located two blocks away, and pleasant places for him. It is also recommended trips in which you can find people for which the dog has an affective relation. All the same, when possible you can feed him inside the car to help establish -on the dog's part- a better acquaintance with the vehicle.

As an additional measure that can be applied to get a better relaxation of the dog, you may choose a series of objects or toys from which the dog will only have access when inside the vehicle. The object of this measure is to make the dog forget, at least partially, the place in which he is and not to center all his attention in the fact that he is inside the vehicle. Likewise, the direct attention to the dog by part of one of the persons in the back seat can be necessary at first, but it is convenient to, progressively let him be on his own as the dog improves. We can't link a good behavior of the exemplar to a constant attention for the following reasons: 1) there will be occasions in which we won't count with the presence of another person, and 2) a solution to any kind of problem or is in a total way or it isn't a solution at all.
