Grooming an American Spaniel
Material to use: Electric trimmer (number 10, 7/8), teasel, comb, medium sized trimmer, nail clippers, curved scissors, serrated scissors.
Shave in the direction of the hair (number 10) the superior part of the nose until the angles of the eyes, the cheeks, chin, and throat. Keep the hair on the eyebrows and forehead then shave about one third of the head until the back of the neck, as well as the ears interior and exterior part.
Even out the buttocks area by pulling out the hair or by using an electric trimmer. The sides and the lower part of the tail will also be done with the serrated scissors. Shave the (number 10) hair on the throat until right above the sternum. Very carefully even out the areas that have short hair, however leave them long (use the serrated scissors for this).
Shear (number 10) the abdomen and the crotch area. Shave the bottom part of the paws and then trim the nails. Next, untangle all the areas that have been left with long hair until you are able to use a comb on it easily. Get rid of the knots one by one carefully.
Bathe the dog by using an appropriate shampoo and apply an untangling cream. Rinse out well and dry with the hair dryer (on low). Next, brush out the whole dog's coat. Cut the contour of the "pants" without removing hair from the ankles but by flapping them out to the sides. This is not so easily done but can be done with practice.
