Dog Socialization

It is very important that you socialize your puppy from an early age. A dog that has not learnt how to interact with people or other animals will have many problems as an adult.

Interacting with kids: Children must be taught how to properly interact with dogs as much as dogs must be properly taught how to interact with kids. Children always are at much more risk of being bit than adults, as they are smaller and often rowdy. It is important that any child that wants to pet your dog be told how to go about it. No child should ever approach your dog running, screaming nor should any child hit or aggressively hug your dog. All of these things can be misinterpreted by your dog as signs of aggression that can cause him to want to defend himself. All contact between your dog and a child should be done under supervision and you should have your dog under control at all times. Let the child pet and show the dog affection at his side and not face on. Praise your dog for his good behavior but be prepared in case your dog does not react well. Never punish your dog for any aggression showed toward kids as this can cause him to become confused.
