Important Interventions & Dog Medical Interventions

There are certain medical interventions that the veterinarian is not going to make but are necessary to dominate to help the dog."During exploration you have to soothe the dog".

Adequate Fastening
During exploration you have to constantly soothe and hold the dog by it's neck. To hold it so that it doesn't move you rap your arm around it's neck so that it's head is resting on the inside of your elbow, facing away from the veterinarian. With your other hand you hold it's back. You should put a muzzle on dangerous dogs. If the dog needs to be laying down during treatment it's necessary to stand behind it and hold with both hands it's paws, therefore your forearms immobilize the dog. Using this method you can easily hold even the biggest dogs. Remember to always calm the dog.

Putting on a Muzzle Cord
With this cord you stop the dog from biting. The proper method: make a lasso with one meter of gauze or a tie and put it on the muzzle. Tie it underneath the muzzle, cross the ends and bring them together behind the ears in the form of a ribbon.

Putting on a Compressive Bandage
This type of bandage is necessary when there is a strong hemorrhage.
The proper method: gauze is placed directly on the wound and a bandage around it. Every three rounds you need to put a little more gauze as cushioning. For a secure bandage you should turn the roll around every once in a while (you shouldn't leave the bandages loose). If the wound continues bleeding after the bandage is applied, you need to cut the flow of blood from above the wound. For this you can use an elastic, suspenders or any other resistant elastic material. The bandage must be loosened for a short amount of time every half an hour. In case of an accident it's necessary to visit a veterinarian.

Taking it's pulse
Healthy pulse rates: large and medium size breeds should be between 70-100, small breeds should be between 100-130, and puppies can reach 200 beats a minute.
Proper method: To take it's pulse you need to kneel behind the dog, which will be standing and from the top you put your hand where the back legs come together with the body, there is a dent though where a large artery that provides the leg with blood passes.

Taking It's Temperature
A dog's normal temperature ranges from 38.2 to 39 degrees Celsius. Anything greater than this is a fever. If the temperature is below 37.8 degrees it's necessary to go to the veterinarian quickly.
Proper method: you place the dog on the table with a helper holding the dog with it's arm and lifting it's tail with the other then you carefully introduce the lubricated thermometer up it's butt about 2 centimeters and remove it after 1 minute. During this time the dog should remain still.
